National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has once again declared President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance as the Majority Party in the National Assembly.

In his ruling on Wednesday, February 12, Wetang’ula said Kenya Kwanza has 165 MPs while Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has 154 members.

"Azimio Coalition Party consists of 154 members. The Kenya Kwanza Alliance consists of 165 members. Arising from the foregoing, the Kenya Kwanza Coalition is the majority party and Azimio Coalition is the minority party in the House. The leadership of the House remains unchanged," Wetang'ula ruled.

Following the ruling, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa retains his position as the Leader of Majority while Junet Mohamed as the Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly.

The ruling comes after the High Court in Nairobi declared that the Kenya Kwanza coalition is not the majority party in the National Assembly.

A three-judge bench comprising Justices John Chigiti, Lawrence Mugambi and Jairus Ngaah ruled that Wetang’ula, violated the constitution while making the determination.

President William Ruto.
