Kenya content creator Sparky Kenya has sparked online debate for mocking people who sleep under mosquito nets, drawing attention from netizens on social media. In the viral video circulating online, Sparky has said many users said the way he spoke seemed to mock the importance of mosquito nets. Since mosquito nets are common and vital protection against malaria in Kenya and other regions, the comments struck many as insensitive.
Opinions from different users responded saying, “mosquito nets are an essential health and safety measure in many parts of Kenya due to the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria.” Others defended him suggesting the video was for social commentary rather than individuals attack.
Sparky Kenya, has previously faced backlash after targeting Kenyans above 35 years who did not own cars and for records about social and economic lifestyles, which drew responses from celebrities and social media users. He has been previously called out over controversial statements and online criticism.
