With an even greater emphasis on the long-standing Muiri Farm dispute, Captain Kungu Muigai has once more declared that he stands solidly behind the chase of truth and the raising of accountability in Kenya.
According to the Captain, for a long time, people have been complaining about how their concerns were being handled without considering that it was affecting their trust in the institutions.
The central theme or message of the demand for justice, he referred to, is that the rights of every individual, figured out and delivered in a fair, transparent, and impartial manner, should be the standard of practice.
Muigai said that Muiri Farm, which is a dispute that goes back more than forty years, is at the core of these struggles, and it is a case that he sees as a representation of the bigger problems in the justice system in Kenya.
He continued to say that the issue is still unresolved, telling us a story of how the law is not being followed to the letter, which in turn is forcing the people and the society of Kenya at large to lose faith in the administration of justice in the areas of integrity, fairness, and accountability. “Delays, evasions, and bureaucratic roadblocks are the main means through which citizens are being denied their access to justice,” said Muigai. He added,
“It is not only a question of rights that we keep raising, but also, the issue of the protection of property rights, the inviolability of due process, and the trustworthiness of our institutions.”
Muigai went on to say that, the courts and all the other public powers must always be very loyal to the Constitution and the rule of law. He was warning that when this is violated, democracy and people’s trust in the government are greatly weakened.
Captain Muigai is calling on the institutions that are involved to not only act in a straight manner but also be quick in their reaction so that justice can not only be done but also be seen to be done.
However, he feels that the case of the Muiri Farm is just not about him, it is a question of the restoration of people’s trust in the justice system of Kenya.
The Muiri Farm case, which has gone on for decades without being settled, is still a reflection of how the justice system in Kenya needs to be improved.
