Six-Day Water Cut to Hit Many Nairobi Estates

Over thousands of Nairobi residents are set to experience water cuts after the city authorities declared a six-day shutdown of its major water supply system.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company issued a statement indicating that the cut will occur between 6am on Monday April 6th to 6am on Saturday April 11th.

The Athi Water Works Development Agency will shut down the system in order to finish some work in connecting the Kigoro Water Treatment plant to reservoirs in Gigiri and Kabete.

The Acting Managing Director Martin Nang’ole says the move although inconvenient is essential for better and efficient water supply systems in the future.

The affected areas include Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani and parts of Dagoretti and Kabete.

Some of the other parts which will experience a shortage of water include Upper Hill, parts of Kibera and Lang’ata, Karen, South B and South C, the Industrial Area and Central Business District.

Some of the major institutions affected include Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenyatta National Hospital and KEMRI. In addition, the areas will also affect Mombasa Road and North Airport Road businesses.

Those living in other Eastlands neighborhoods like Eastleigh, Buruburu, Huruma and Mathare, alongside others along Thika Road like Ngara, Pangani and Kasarani, have been named too.

The company has asked residents in Nairobi to be patient during this time and make good use of the few drops of water available to them.

“On behalf of our company, we wish to request our esteemed customers to endure this period of time and ensure that you conserve water while our work is on,” the company stated.

After the completion of the work, the company believes that Nairobi will get a more efficient water supply system.
