A coordinated operation by Anti-Narcotics Unist (ANU) detectives in Mombasa has led to the arrest of six suspected traffickers and the seizure of bhang worth an estimated Sh72 million.
Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a truck—registration KDT 659G—along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway before the illicit cargo could be distributed.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 50 sacks packed with long rolls of bhang wrapped in khaki paper, weighing a total of 2,400kg.
The truck’s driver, Nolden Ogola Misieba, and his co-driver, Andrew Kaida, were arrested at the scene.
Detectives further intercepted three additional vehicles believed to be part of the wider distribution network:
- KCL 458S, a Toyota Noah driven by Jefferson Kamau with accomplice Lawrence Onyango,
- KCZ 567R, a Nissan Note driven by John Lutomia, and
- KDQ 867K, a Toyota Vitz driven by Samuel Juma Okoth.
Investigations have established that the three vehicles were intended to pick up and distribute the intercepted consignment across Mombasa and its surrounding areas.
All six suspects remain in custody as processing continues, while the seized narcotics and vehicles have been secured as exhibits.
The DCI reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and commends members of the public whose timely reports continue to play a vital role in keeping communities safe.
