Kenyan fashion influencer and social media content creator Shorn Arwa has candidly shared her views on fame and celebrity culture.
In an Instagram post, Shorn asked why there are certain celebrities who complain that they are always in the spotlight. “When I hear celebrities say they wish they weren’t famous, genuinely, I don’t get it. Yes, being in the spotlight isn’t easy but so isn’t NOT being in the spotlight,” she posted.
Fame is a blessing, not a curse, for Shorn. She admitted that she enjoys the attention as much as the possibilities that are included in it. “Me? Mimi, make me as famous as I can get! I love it here. When people talk about me, my currency goes up. Good or bad talk, publicity is publicity,” she said.
Her comment, however, did not stop there at complimenting fame. She also criticized celebrities who claim that they are tired of the spotlight but remain very active on social media. “If you’re truly done with it, just delete and deactivate your socials, get a regular job, and have a regular life. How do you say you loathe being famous, yet post every other second?” she questioned.
A number of her fans agreed with her view that fame is something to be accepted, especially where it fuels growth and income.
