The Social Health Authority (SHA) has dismissed reports suggesting that some hospitals are yet to receive payments, insisting that funds have already been released to facilities across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, SHA confirmed that Ksh3.4 billion has so far been disbursed to contracted health facilities.
The money covers claims for inpatient care, drug and substance abuse treatment, mental health support, critical care, and surgeries.
The authority made special reference to Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital, which had been mentioned in social media posts alleging non-payment. SHA clarified that the hospital had in fact received Ksh19 million between January and June this year for maternity services and long-term inpatient care.
The facility has also confirmed receipt of the funds.
“SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency,” the statement read.
Beyond the Ksh3.4 billion for hospital claims, the authority revealed that an extra Ksh1.09 billion has been released from the Primary Health Care Fund.
Another Ksh1.7 billion is currently being processed to cover specialised treatments, including dialysis, oncology, and surgical cases.
To promote transparency, SHA said an updated list of disbursements will soon be published on its website for public access.
Earlier in July, SHA’s Chief Executive Officer assured more than 9,000 healthcare providers that verified claims would be paid in two phases on July 14 and July 21.
