Sergio Conceicao has been named the new head coach of AC Milan following the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca.
The former Porto manager, who enjoyed a successful six-year stint with the Portuguese club, has signed an 18-month contract at San Siro.
At 50 years old, Conceicao leaves behind a legacy of 11 trophies from his time at Porto, stepping down after last season.
His first match in charge of Milan will take place on January 3, when the team faces Juventus in the first leg of the Italian Super Cup semi-finals.
In an intriguing twist, Conceicao will be up against his own son, Francisco, who plays for Juventus.
Fonseca was sacked on Monday morning, hours after Milan’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Roma.
This result left the seven-time European champions languishing in eighth place in Serie A, 14 points behind leaders Atalanta and Napoli.
Paulo Fonseca was fired yesterday.
Fonseca, who took over in June, was appointed to replace Stefano Pioli, who led Milan to a second-place finish last season and their first Serie A title in 11 years in 2022.
Milan currently sit 12th in the 36-team Champions League table, with four wins and two losses from their six group-stage matches.
