Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is at a defining point in its history as Dr. Oburu Oginga takes over the party’s leadership following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Cherargei said Raila’s influence on ODM and the national political landscape was unparalleled, describing him as the cornerstone of the party’s identity.
“ODM was Raila, and Raila was ODM,” said Cherargei. “His legacy will remain central to the party’s direction even in his absence.”
The senator said before his passing, Raila had ensured that ODM was part of the government, demonstrating his political foresight and commitment to inclusion.
“Before his passing, Raila ensured that ODM was part of the government,” he said.
Cherargei sent his best wishes to Dr. Oburu Oginga as he steps into leadership, saying he faces the challenge of maintaining the unity and strength that ODM enjoyed under Raila.
“I wish Dr. Oburu Oginga all the best as the ODM Party Leader,” he noted.
He also condemned those who celebrated when Raila was unwell, calling the act disrespectful and insensitive.
