Fawziah Ali Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC, and Patric Mburu, General Manager Mountain Region, Safaricom PLC, cut the cake as Bundle Ya Wakulima takes root in Meru

Farmers in Meru County are being introduced to a new Safaricom package that brings together mobile services, insurance and agricultural support as the company seeks to help farmers improve productivity.

The Bundle Ya Wakulima was showcased in Meru on Friday, August 28, during a farmer engagement forum attended by more than 500 farmers from the region.

The package is part of Safaricom’s PATA MORE customer proposition and is meant to give farmers several services under one bundle instead of accessing them separately.

Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali, said supporting farmers in Meru was important because of the county’s role in agriculture and food production.

“Meru is one of Kenya’s agricultural powerhouses, and supporting farmers is critical to strengthening food security,” Ali said.

She said the package was designed to give farmers access to communication, insurance and other services that can support them during the farming cycle.

What the farmers get

Bundle Ya Wakulima combines voice calls, data, SMS and WhatsApp access with other services aimed at farmers.

The package also provides access to insurance options and agricultural advisory services.

Farmers can also get discounted production support, including farm inputs and mechanisation services, while eligible farmers can access credit pathways.

According to Safaricom, the package was developed using information and insights from farmers, including the continued importance of voice calls in how farmers communicate and make decisions.

The company said the bundle is available in different options, including daily, weekly, monthly and longer-term plans.

This allows farmers to choose packages depending on their needs and the stage of the farming season.

Meru marks fifth regional engagement

The Meru forum was the fifth regional farmer engagement held by Safaricom following similar events in Kirinyaga, Bomet, Nakuru and Bungoma.

The company said Bundle Ya Wakulima is available to farmers across the country.

Farmers who want to access the package can dial *544*16# on their mobile phones.
