President William Ruto on Monday emphasized the need to align national and county government priorities to accelerate development and foster inclusive growth in the Mt. Kenya region.

In a high-level consultative meeting at State House, Nairobi, the Head of State met with Central Kenya governors, Cabinet Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries to discuss key projects aimed at transforming the region’s socio-economic landscape.

Governors in attendance included Cecily Mbarire (Embu), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Kiarie Badilisha (Nyandarua), and Isaac Mutuma (Meru). They were joined by Cabinet Secretaries Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture), William Kabogo (ICT), and Rebecca Miano (Tourism), alongside other government officials.

“We are aligning National and County Governments’ priorities to accelerate our development agenda, effectively address the needs of our people, and drive inclusive growth,” President Ruto stated.

Notably absent from the meeting were Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Public Service CS Justin Muturi.

Speaking in Kiambu last week, Muturi clarified that he would only accompany the President on his Mt. Kenya tour if it directly involved his ministerial responsibilities.

This consultative meeting comes ahead of President Ruto’s highly anticipated tour of the Mt. Kenya region—the first since the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua has since criticized the President, accusing him of sidelining him and the region.
