President William Ruto has called on African leaders and development partners to channel more investment into people-centered initiatives, arguing that sustainable growth can only be achieved by prioritizing health, education, and overall well-being.
Speaking during the plenary session of the Society Pillar at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan.
Ruto noted that while Sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP is projected to grow by 4 per cent—outpacing the global average of 3 per cent—the growth has not sufficiently translated into poverty reduction, job creation, or improved social services.
He stressed that inclusive growth and shared prosperity would remain elusive unless African nations deliberately focus on human capital development.
“For Africa to leave no one behind, we must substantially invest in people—their health, education, and well-being. This is the surest path to a prosperous and stable continent,” the President said.
The TICAD forum, co-organized by the Government of Japan, the United Nations, and African stakeholders, has brought together global leaders to deliberate on strategies for Africa’s transformation.
