Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has underscored Kenya’s commitment to advancing peace and stability in Africa following high-level talks with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the TICAD 9 summit in Yokohama, Japan.
Mudavadi, who was part of President William Ruto’s delegation, said the discussions focused on security challenges in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa, with emphasis on Africa’s capacity to spearhead its own mediation and conflict resolution.
‘We recognized the critical role of the East African Community and the Southern Africa Development Community in spearheading mediation efforts, underscoring Africa’s ability to shape its own destiny through unity and dialogue,’ he said.
He highlighted the pivotal role of regional blocs such as the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) in fostering dialogue and driving homegrown solutions.
The leaders also deliberated on the worsening crisis in Haiti, calling for predictable and sustainable funding for the Multinational Security Support Mission.
Mudavadi urged more nations to commit troops, saying the people of Haiti deserve global solidarity and a future free from chaos.
