President William Ruto is set to increase the number of affordable housing units in Baringo County’s Kabarnet Town.
The Head of State revealed that the number of proposed units will rise from 480 to 1, 000 as the government escalates a nationwide housing initiative.
Ruto made the announcement during a tour of the construction site in Baringo Central, where he indicated that the Affordable Housing Programme is creating jobs opportunities to youth and benefiting the local businesses.
The programme is creating jobs for masons carpenters, electricians plumbers, steel fixers, and engineers thus creating business for local contractors and construction companies.
According to president Ruto, the programme has generated 1. 1 million jobs and is expected to eliminate land fragmentation in high-potential agricultural zones, eradicate slums and establish well-planned settlements for effective service delivery.
It aims to build two million houses, 200 000 each year, with 300, 000 units already under construction across the country.
In a separate development, Ruto inspected the
ongoing construction of the 380, unit Chepkorio Affordable Housing Project in Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The developments are part of the government’s plan to increase affordable homes, create employment and to boost economic activity within the construction industry.
