President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting transparency and public participation in governance through the use of open government principles.
Speaking at the launch of the Fifth National Action Plan on Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Nairobi, the President highlighted the role of informed citizens in strengthening democracy and improving service delivery.
“We are working with partners to make the government more open and citizens more informed in our effort to strengthen public participation, improve governance, and boost service delivery,” President Ruto stated.
He underscored the importance of collaboration between the government, civil society, and other stakeholders in enhancing transparency and accountability.
The President also announced the implementation of regulatory measures to curb the misuse of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
He warned that while such technologies offer immense opportunities for growth and innovation, they also pose risks when used to spread disinformation, which undermines democratic processes.
“We are implementing a regulatory regime that forestalls the abuse of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, which lead to disinformation that threatens our democracy,” President Ruto said. The government aims to ensure that technological advancements are harnessed responsibly to foster progress without compromising the integrity of Kenya’s democratic institutions.
The launch of the Fifth National Action Plan on Open Government Partnership marks another step toward fulfilling Kenya’s commitment to open governance.
The initiative seeks to empower citizens by providing greater access to government information and promoting accountability at all levels.
