President William Ruto has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), describing them as the backbone of Kenya’s economy and a key driver of innovation, job creation, and empowerment—especially for youth and women.
Speaking at the World MSME Day celebrations held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
Ruto emphasized the government’s focus on building modern infrastructure, enacting progressive policies, and expanding access to affordable credit to unlock the full potential of the sector.

“Small enterprises are the engines of our economic growth. They not only drive innovation, but also support livelihoods,” he said. “We are focused on unlocking their full capacity to accelerate inclusive and sustainable transformation.”
The President acknowledged the critical role MSMEs play in generating employment and income, noting that the sector accounts for the largest share of jobs in the country.

However, his address also included a stern warning to individuals engaging in violence under the guise of peaceful protest.
