President William Ruto has held talks with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany in New York, with Kenya set to benefit from a planned US$10 million investment by the UN agency.
Ruto said the discussions, held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, focused on strengthening Kenya–UNESCO cooperation in education, artificial intelligence, climate action, skills development and innovation.
The President welcomed UNESCO’s planned investment, saying it would support Kenya’s development priorities and expand opportunities in key sectors.

Ruto said the discussions, held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, focused on strengthening Kenya–UNESCO cooperation in education, artificial intelligence, climate action, skills development and innovation.

Kenya is also set to host the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in Nairobi in January 2027.
Ruto and El-Enany further discussed cooperation around the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2029 World Athletics Championships, which Kenya will host alongside its regional partners.
The President said Kenya sought to use education, culture, science and sport to create more opportunities for its people as the country prepares to host major international events.
The meeting formed part of Ruto’s engagements in New York during the UN General Assembly, where he has been holding bilateral talks with international leaders and senior officials on areas of cooperation and development,”Ruto said in a statement.
