President William Ruto has inspected the ongoing construction of the Makutano Modern Market in Kapenguria Constituency, West Pokot County.

The project, valued at Ksh 147 million, is currently 69% complete and is scheduled for a handover in December 2026.

The President, accompanied by local leaders and government officials, toured the site to assess the progress and interact with stakeholders. He emphasized that the market is designed to provide traders with modern facilities, structured stalls and improved amenities that will transform how commerce is conducted.

Ruto acknowledged that the facility, once complete, may not accommodate all traders, but said he would construct another market in coming year.

“I have added an additional Ksh300 million, which would be allocated in January 2027 to construct another market to accommodate the growing number of traders,” Ruto said.

The market is expected to boost the local livelihoods, enhance agricultural trade and strengthen regional commerce between the Kapenguria people and the neighboring counties.

The completion of the second market will position West Pokot as a regional hub for trade and entrepreneurship across the country.
