President William Ruto has presided over the distribution of 36,826 title deeds to residents of Kilifi County during his development tour of the county.
The exercise was conducted at Karisa Maitha Grounds in Kilifi Town, where he handed over the deeds to beneficiaries from Rabai, Kaloleni, Ganze, Kilifi South and Malindi constituencies.
For decades, land ownership in coastal Kenya has been a contentious issue, with many residents living on ancestral land without formal documentation.
President Ruto emphasized that legal land ownership provides tenure security, restores dignity and unlocks economic opportunities that will allow landowners to utilize their property for commercial investment and agricultural development.
At the event, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi was also among the residents receiving a title deed, calling the moment as a significant in the region’s history of unresolved land disputes.
“Today, I will also receive my title deed of Adu Kamale, which has been brought here today,” Kingi said.
He thanked the President, saying it is a progress for the people of Kilifi who have been waiting for decades for formal documentation.
“On behalf of the leaders of the Coast region and the people of the Coast, Your Excellency, I would like to respectfully say thank you,” he said.
Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir and other national and local leaders attended the event.
