President William Ruto has said the government will invest KSh35 billion to upgrade 14 roads spanning 400 kilometres in Uasin Gishu County to benefit residents and sectors including agriculture and boost economic growth.

While visiting the North Rift region, Ruto opened the Soy-Serekea-Kilimani-Turbo-Nangili-Ziwa Machine-Ziwa Sirikwa and Ziwa Sirikwa-Kerotet-Maji Mazuri-Moi’s Bridge roads.

Speaking at the launch of the road projects, the President said the projects will ease the movement of produce to markets, cut down the cost of transportation and improve connectivity for the residents and investors in the county.

The investment is anticipated to help farmers to access the market and enable goods and services to move more easily throughout the region.

Ealier, he toured the construction site of Ziwa Level 5 Hospital in Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.

A 400 bed facility is planned to have five theatres, 12 beds in the Intensive Care Unit and 12 beds in the High Dependency Unit. There will be diagnostic, maternity, and dental services, laboratories, and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre.

“Once completed, the hospital will expand access to specialised healthcare, serve the growing population in the region and ease pressure on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and other nearby referral facilities, ” said President Ruto

The center will also aid in responding to the health needs of the fast growing population of the region and ease pressure on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and other similar referral centers.

The road and hospital projects are part of ongoing infrastructure investments aimed at improving transport connectivity and access to essential public services in the North Rift region.
