KCB Foundation has flagged off 300 students into its Annual University Scholarship Programme. The students join 588 others under the programme studying at different universities and colleges across the country.

With an investment of KShs. 100 million, the Foundation will fully sponsor the students through their studies in Kenyan universities, technical colleges, and vocational institutions.

The scholarship covers tuition for the entire duration of the course and includes structured mentorship to provide psychosocial and professional support.

This latest batch joins 588 students already under the programme and becomes the fourth cohort since the university initiative was launched in 2021. The programme is intentionally inclusive, with 50% of the slots reserved for girls and 10% for students with disabilities.

It also prioritizes vulnerable youth, including orphans, teenage mothers, FGM survivors, and students from marginalized regions.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Basic Education Principal Secretary Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok said the government continues to champion inclusive education through policies like the 100% Transition Policy, Competency-Based Curriculum, and the new university funding model that has already injected over KShs. 40 billion into supporting first- and second-year students.

“Public-private partnerships like these are critical to bridging gaps and expanding access, especially in under-resourced areas,” said Prof. Bitok.

KCB Group CEO Paul Russo emphasized the bank’s long-standing belief in education as a driver of social and economic transformation.

“To date, we’ve supported 5,755 students—3,500 of whom are still in high school. These include 5,013 bright but vulnerable youth, 454 students living with disabilities, 104 teenage mothers, 134 FGM champions, and 47 talented athletes,” Russo revealed.

“Our mission is simple: every child deserves a fair shot at quality education. When we invest in young people, we’re also investing in the future of our country—tackling poverty, unemployment, and social inequality head-on,” he added.

The university scholarship is inclusive of the annual mentorship to nurture the students on how to unlock opportunities within their areas of study and professional development.
