President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing Nairobi through the Affordable Housing Programme, which aims to eliminate informal settlements and provide decent housing for millions of residents.
Speaking during an inspection of the 4,566-unit Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project in Kamukunji Constituency, President Ruto emphasized the importance of upgrading the capital city to reflect its global significance.
“Nairobi is our country’s capital and also the only United Nations headquarters in the Global South. It is so important a city that we must upgrade its face and make it modern,” he stated.

The Affordable Housing Programme, a key pillar of the government’s development agenda, is designed to address the housing deficit while improving urban living conditions.
According to President Ruto, the initiative not only provides homes for low-income families but also creates job opportunities for thousands of Kenyans in the construction sector.

“Our Affordable Housing Programme accords us the opportunity to rid Nairobi of many informal settlements and provide millions of residents with decent living,” the president reiterated.

The Shauri Moyo B project, one of many ongoing housing developments in the city, is expected to provide thousands of families with quality and affordable housing upon completion. The initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Nairobi into a modern metropolis that meets global urban standards.
