Traders at Ruiru Bypass stage were left counting losses on the morning of Wednesday, September 2 after a fire tore through several stalls and businesses in the area.
The fire broke out in the early hours, with local reports putting the time at around 3am.
The flames swept through the stalls at Kwa Kairu, destroying merchandise and other property belonging to traders.
Some houses in the area were also affected as the fire spread, forcing residents to rush out and try to put it off.
Residents joined efforts to contain the blaze while emergency teams were called to the scene. At least one fire engine was reported to have arrived as efforts to control the fire continued.
By morning, traders had started going through the remains of their businesses to see what could be salvaged.
The value of the property destroyed was not immediately known.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, although authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication.
The cause of the fire was also yet to be established.
Some local reports suggested that the fire could have started from one of the stalls, but this had not been confirmed.
