Newly appointed Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has officially taken over the ministry, marking the beginning of his tenure with a familiarization tour at the Ministry of Health headquarters.

The visit comes days after President William Ruto’s Cabinet reshuffle on March 26, 2025, which saw Duale replace Dr. Deborah Barasa, who now heads the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

During the handover, Duale held a brief meeting with Dr. Barasa before addressing senior officials, including Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system, promoting equity, and accelerating the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), a key pillar of Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

Duale’s transition to the Health Ministry has sparked public interest, given his strong leadership track record at the Ministry of Defence.

His appointment signals a strategic move by the president, as the government intensifies efforts to improve service delivery in the health sector.

As Kenyans watch closely, expectations are high that Duale will drive critical reforms, enhance efficiency, and address the challenges facing the country’s healthcare system.
