Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, made a strategic visit to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) today as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s health supply chain systems and promote accountability within key public institutions.

Dr. Oluga, who was received by KEMSA CEO Dr. Andrew Wala Ejersa, took a tour of the agency’s operations before holding a high-level consultative meeting with the Board of Directors.

The visit marked a significant step in reinforcing the government’s commitment to restoring credibility and efficiency in KEMSA’s operations.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Oluga underscored the agency’s pivotal role in ensuring uninterrupted access to medical commodities, describing it as central to the delivery of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He highlighted “commodity security” as one of the four critical pillars of Kenya’s health system, alongside healthcare financing, human resources for health, and digitization.

“Restoring public trust in KEMSA begins with transparency, strong governance, and efficient supply chain systems. These are non-negotiable elements if we are to succeed in our mission to deliver quality and equitable healthcare to all Kenyans,” said Dr. Oluga.

He called on KEMSA leadership to champion integrity and innovation as the agency undertakes reforms aimed at improving service delivery and reinforcing its accountability to the Kenyan public.

The visit comes at a time when KEMSA is under renewed scrutiny to deliver on its mandate following previous procurement and governance challenges.

Dr. Oluga’s remarks signal a firm stance by the Ministry of Health to ensure that health institutions operate with the highest standards of professionalism and public service.
