Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development Shadrack Mwadime leads a delegation in Germany to advance the bilateral labour agreement signed with Kenya last year, focusing on creating opportunities for youth across various sectors.
The agreement creates a framework for cooperation and information exchange on labour mobility, apprenticeships, student training, labour market needs, employment, workers’ welfare, and industrial attachment opportunities for the Kenyan youth.
During a visit to Frankfurt, the team visited Rothenberger, a leading manufacturer of pipe tools founded in Frankfurt, contributing approximately 1 billion euros to the German economy. They discussed job opportunities in the manufacturing value chain, including milling, drilling, and hydraulic engineering, to align with Germany’s market needs.
Dr. Jürgen Ratzinger, Managing Director for International Business at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), hosted the delegation, facilitating interactions with stakeholders from various sectors. Discussions focused on market needs in Germany, how Kenya can prepare to meet employer expectations, and addressing adaptability, integration, and mindset challenges for Kenyan youth arriving in Germany. The delegation later engaged with representatives from 24 firms across different industries.
PS Mwadime is accompanied by NSSF boss Mr. David Koros, Labour Secretary, Mr. Joel Mwanzia, NEA Director General, Madam Edith Okoki, Nita Acting Director General Madam Theresa Wasike and other Ministry officials. Later in the week, the PS and team will head to Berlin.
