Principal Secretary Julius Bitok of Basic Education has announced the issuance of placement letters to Grade 10 students before Christmas.
Speaking in Kikuyu on Monday, November 17, Bitok said that the Ministry of Education would start placing students in senior schools about a week after the release of KJSEA results.
This year’s KJSEA exams ran from October 27 to November 3, 2025. The PS confirmed that the results will be out by December 11.
Once placement is complete, the 1.1 million learners are expected to report to their assigned schools on January 12, 2026.
“We expect to release the results by December 11, and we’ll begin placement immediately afterwards so students can prepare to join senior school,” he said. “We’ve already provided clear guidelines to steer the entire process, so there is no confusion.”
Bitok asserted that the government has put in place a solid system to ensure a smooth transition to senior school for all learners.
No Change in School Fees
He added that school fees will not increase next year and if there is any change, it is the government that will announce, not the schools themselves.
“The policy on free education still stands. The government has not changed that. All learners shall continue to benefit from free primary and secondary education. There are no changes in fees, let me be very clear,” Bitok stressed.
He added that the ministry is working closely with the Treasury to ensure that capitation funds are released on time so that learning runs smoothly across the country.
Currently, the Ministry is concluding a national school verification exercise to ascertain the actual number of students and schools. Bitok said this process is vital for ensuring that disbursement of next year’s capitation is done on time and with absolute accuracy.
“One of the reasons we are doing the verification is to confirm the number of students, the number of schools, and the correct school account details. We will not release capitation to any school that has not been verified,” he noted. “We have spent the last two months collecting this data. We are now finalizing it and will soon release a full report. As you know, this exercise was prompted by concerns raised by the Auditor General,” he added.
