It has emerged that a secret conversation that the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua held with an MP is behind his bitter fallout with President William Ruto.
During his tour of the Nyanza region on August 30, Gachagua had a lengthy meeting with an MP from the Rift Valley region at Acacia Premier Hotel in Kisumu at night.
In a dramatic turn of events, what the former DP did not know was that some people away from the meeting room were getting every minute of the secret conversation and their deliberations.
The recorded conversation, whose details has not been released to the public, is now at the centre of the severed relationship between Ruto and Gachagua.
Immediately after the Nyanza tour, the differences between the two leaders started being apparent.
In one instance, the government helicopter carrying Gachagua was recalled to Nairobi moments after landing in Kirinyaga.
Also, while addressing the press after being discharged from The Karen Hospital, Gachagua claimed security agents tried to assassinate him.
