Infrastructure development has been at the centre of President William Ruto’s delivery to the people of Kenya, as outlined in his manifesto, dubbed ‘The Plan’.
In the bustling heart of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, President Ruto has commissioned several road projects aimed at decongesting the city’s notorious traffic jams, fueling economic vitality while at it.
TUKIO.co.ke has outlined the road projects the head of state has initiated in Nairobi since assuming power in 2022.
In July 2025, President Ruto commissioned the 3.1km Savannah- Stage 17 Bridge Road, which traverses from Embakasi Central to Embakasi East constituencies, starting from Bridge Savannah- Stage 17-Masimba Road.
The road project was rehabilitated under the supervision of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) at a cost of KSh 61.5 million drawn from the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF).
Also, under President Ruto’s administration, the construction of the initially stalled Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange and the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass has resumed. The constructions are slated to be completed in 2026.
Further, the 12km James Gichuru Junction and the Southern Bypass Road has been renovated during Ruto’s now about three years in power. The renovations improve road safety, ensure smooth flow of traffic and better linkages to major commercial hubs.
This publication also notes the ongoing construction of 500m Green Park Pedestrian Underpass Network at the busy Haile Selassie–Uhuru Highway Roundabout at about KSh 2 billion. The project is 97% complete and is set to open soon.
The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure hailed the underpass as a key step toward easing congestion in the capital.
President Ruto’s Cabinet has also approved the proposed dualling of the 20.2km Nairobi Northern Bypass aimed at easing traffic congestion and expanding the road’s capacity to handle growing traffic volumes. The road project will stretch from Ruaka in Kiambu to Ruiru, connecting with both the Western and Eastern bypasses.
Also, under the chairmanship of the head of state, the Cabinet approved the dualling of 23.5km Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi Road, paving the way for improved mobility and reduced congestion between Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
Cumulatively, President Ruto announced plans to construct and rehabilitate 70km of roads across Nairobi to modernize the capital.
