President William Ruto on Tuesday presided over the launch of the construction of the Rumuruti Modern Market, a flagship project aimed at transforming trade and agribusiness in Laikipia County.

The KSh260 million market is expected to accommodate more than 750 traders, providing them with modern trading spaces and improved facilities.

The project is part of the government’s broader agenda to empower small-scale traders, strengthen local economies, and create sustainable jobs.

Speaking during the launch, President Ruto said the market will open up business opportunities for residents while enhancing value addition and orderly trading in the region.

“Launched the construction of Rumuruti Modern Market, Laikipia County, which will accommodate more than 750 traders. The KSh260 million investment will create jobs and expand business opportunities for residents and traders,”he said.

He noted that the construction phase alone will generate employment for local youth, with long-term benefits expected once the market becomes operational.

The Head of State further revealed that the government is constructing 14 modern markets across Laikipia County as part of a wider plan to boost agribusiness and support farmers and traders by bringing services closer to the people.
