Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has launched the 2026 edition of the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme, a comprehensive education support initiative set to benefit over 12,000 learners across all 65 day secondary schools in the constituency.

The programme will cover all Grade 10, Form Three, and Form Four learners, with a major highlight being the reduction of school fees to Sh500 per term for all day secondary school students starting the first term of 2026.

Under the initiative, all learners will receive daily school lunches, including githeri three days a week, rice three days a week, and uji during tea breaks. Schools will also serve chapati for lunch on the last Friday of every month, a move aimed at improving nutrition and learner retention.

To strengthen academic performance, the Kiharu NG-CDF has allocated an additional Sh10 million for revision materials during the current financial year, adding to Sh20 million already invested in previous years.

The programme will also provide over Sh50 million for infrastructure development, with priority given to laboratory construction and upgrades.

Students joining Grade 10 in 20 identified schools with low enrolment, as well as newly established schools, will receive free uniforms. In addition, each of the 65 day secondary schools will be allocated Sh50,000 to support co-curricular activities such as music, sports, and games.

The programme further sets aside Sh900,000 for prize-giving ceremonies across Murang’a East and Kahuro sub-counties to reward top-performing students without burdening parents.

Teachers and school administrators will also be incentivised, with the best-improved teachers per subject earning fully sponsored trips to Mombasa, while top-performing and most-improved principals will receive paid trips to Dubai or Malaysia.

Other measures include capping remedial fees at Sh1,000 per term, eliminating all additional school charges, and covering insurance premiums and maintenance costs for school buses owned by day secondary schools.
