President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Hon. Prof. Abraham Kithure Kindiki and Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, officially inaugurated the new theatre block at Mkongani Sub-County Hospital in Kwale County.

During the event, the President also laid the foundation stone for an X-ray and Diagnostics Center, a facility set to address a critical healthcare gap that previously forced residents to travel over 20 kilometers to access diagnostic services at Kwale Sub-County Hospital.
Originally established as a Level 2 dispensary in 1949, Mkongani Sub-County Hospital has undergone significant upgrades over the years.
In response to growing healthcare demands, it was elevated to a Level 3 Model Health Center in 2021.
With the latest enhancements, the facility now operates as a Level 4 Sub-County Hospital, offering expanded and comprehensive medical services.
The ceremony was attended by leaders from Kwale County and Matuga Constituency, alongside key stakeholders supporting the government’s Taifa Care initiative.
Taifa Care aims to advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by ensuring all Kenyans have access to quality healthcare services.
