The eradication of slums by providing decent and affordable housing remains central to the Government’s economic transformation agenda, President William Ruto has reaffirmed.

Speaking during an inspection of the Kibera Soweto Affordable Housing project, the President reiterated the Government’s constitutional mandate to ensure that Kenyan citizens have access to affordable, adequate and decent housing.

“The constitution mandates that every Kenyan citizen has a right to decent living and the Government will ensure that we fulfill that mandate,” said President Ruto.

Upon completion, the Kibera Affordable Housing Project will deliver 4,500 social housing units: 1,740 one-bedroom, 1,690 two-bedroom and 624 three-bedroom units.

President Ruto emphasized that the Affordable Housing Program not only enhances living standards but also creates employment for more than 160,000 Kenyans.

In addition, President Ruto announced the development of 15,000 more Affordable Housing units in the Southlands to benefit more Kenyans from informal settlements.
