President William Ruto has returned to Kenya from Tanzania, where he travelled to attend the wedding of his daughter, Charlene Ruto, before resuming his public engagements with a visit to Nyamira County.

The Head of State and First Lady Rachel Ruto were in Mwanza, Tanzania, on Friday, November 6, for Charlene’s wedding to Tanzanian businessman Isaya Yunge at Malaika Beach Hotel.

The wedding attracted several Kenyan leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, among other invited guests.

Following the family celebrations, Ruto returned to the country and attended a church service in Nyamira on Sunday, November 8, as he began a development tour of the Gusii region.

The visit forms part of a four-day programme covering Nyamira and neighbouring Kisii County, where the President is expected to launch and inspect several government projects.

According to the itinerary published by The Daily Nation, Ruto’s programme in Nyamira includes an interdenominational church service at Nyamaiya Stadium, the commissioning of the West Mugirango Constituency Digital Hub and the launch of the Bondeni-Magombo Road project.

He is also expected to visit North Mugirango, where he will launch the Tombe-Isinta-Mokomoni Road and preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for Magwagwa Stadium.

The President is further expected to inspect the ongoing construction of Gusii Stadium, which he has pledged to have completed by December 2026.

Other projects lined up for the wider regional tour include road upgrades, healthcare facilities, education infrastructure and the proposed Standard Gauge Railway extension through Magwagwa.

The visit comes as Ruto steps up his government’s development engagements in the Gusii region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In the 2022 presidential election, Ruto received approximately 35 per cent of the votes cast in the region, while his main challenger, the late Raila Odinga, secured about 65 per cent, according to The Standard.

The President’s latest visit is expected to provide an opportunity for him to engage local leaders and residents while reviewing the progress of ongoing government projects.
