Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has sued a Kakamega-based blogger, accusing him of spreading false information linking the legislator to the death of Munyuki High School Principal Simon Isiaho Shange.

Through Danstan Omari & Associates Advocates, Nabwera filed a suit at Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court seeking KSh20 million in damages, a court order to remove the posts, and a public apology from the blogger.

In the court papers the MP alleges that George Opunga Tamata through Facebook pages “Kakamega Post,” “Malava Online,” and “Lugari Watchdog,” published posts on October 3, 2025, suggesting he was involved in the principal’s disappearance and eventual death.

One of the posts reportedly read, “Vanished after defying an MP,” while another urged Nabwera to “come clean on the death of this teacher.”

Nabwera said that  the allegations are entirely false and malicious, and have tarnished his reputation portraying him as a murderer.

“The publications have rallied unknown people who have threatened to plunder my home in Lugari,” Nabwera stated in his affidavit. He added that the claims appear politically motivated and aimed at discrediting him as an elected leader.

According to the MP his lawyers issued a demand letter on November 8, but the blogger failed to respond, retract the posts, or apologize. Nabwera further claims the posts have fueled incitement and placed his family at risk.

The court documents include screenshots of the posts, the demand letter, and messages calling for attacks on his home.

Nabwera also stated that he publicly mourned the late principal after his body was recovered from River Kipkaren, and had called on residents to remain calm while investigations continued.

In the suit, Nabwera is seeking:

  1. 1. A permanent injunction preventing the blogger from publishing similar content in the future;

2. A public apology on the same platforms used to share the alleged defamatory posts; and

3. General damages of KSh20 million for reputational harm and emotional distress.
