President William Ruto has called on the private sector in Yokohama, Japan, to take advantage of the vast investment opportunities available in Kenya.

Speaking at the Yokohama City Assembly on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), President Ruto highlighted Kenya’s rapidly growing Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs), describing them as world-class investment hubs.

He affirmed Kenya’s readiness to collaborate with Japan and the international community in exploring mutually beneficial opportunities.

President Ruto’s visit aims to deepen Kenya-Japan ties by expanding partnerships in trade, investment, and development cooperation.

High on the agenda are key infrastructure projects such as the Mombasa Port expansion, the Mombasa Port Area Road Development Project, the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone, and enhancements to Nairobi’s urban transport system.

Other critical areas of collaboration include agriculture, forestry, and climate action. Japan is already supporting Kenya in rehabilitating irrigation infrastructure and advancing reforestation initiatives.

Education and innovation are also on the table, with both countries expected to explore the expansion of academic exchanges in science, technology, and innovation to build a skilled workforce.

At TICAD 9, President Ruto is set to advocate for greater African integration and connectivity to unlock the continent’s economic potential.

He will underscore the role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in driving inclusive growth, call for the removal of trade barriers, and seek stronger partnerships with Japan to boost investment in key sectors.
