The National Police Service has issued an alarm regarding a rise in road accidents in recent days, advising Kenyans to exercise vigilance on the road.

In a statement, the service offered condolences to the families that lost loved ones and a speedy recovery to those in the hospital.

They asserted that investigations are underway, with police working hand-in-hand with other state agencies to establish what is causing the crashes.

The majority of the recent accidents, police added, would have been prevented. They blamed speeding, careless overtaking, alcohol consumption while driving, overloading, fatigue, and careless road crossing as the primary causes.

"Life is precious and cannot be replaced," read the statement, appealing to all drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users to take care of themselves and others as well.

Customers were also urged to report irresponsible driving by speaking out and reporting the same by dialing 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI line 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.

The Service announced it is turning up the heat to ensure roads become safer, including heightened speed checks, enforcement of overloaded vehicles, clearing off unroadworthy vehicles, enforcement of drunk driving, and following the law by PSV Saccos.

Police urged everyone to unite in preventing further loss of lives.
