A Nairobi resident has filed a petition with the Nairobi County Assembly seeking the impeachment of Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violating the rights of city residents.
The petitioner claims Sakaja illegally deployed county officers to evict tenants from government-managed estates and misrepresented rent arrears owed by property owners. He argues that these actions breach the Constitution and national laws.
Citing Standing Order 68, the petitioner is urging the county assembly to admit the petition and form a committee to investigate the allegations.
The resident also claims to have supporting evidence, including affidavits from alleged victims, photos, videos, and rent statements.
The petition, filed under Article 37 of the Constitution and Section 15 of the County Governments Act, calls on MCAs to uphold their oath and hold Sakaja accountable.
This comes days after the governor faced public backlash over claims that he was linked to goons who disrupted anti-government protests on June 17.
Sakaja has since denied the allegations, calling for peaceful demonstrations and assuring the public that he had liaised with police to protect protestors.
