A pastor in Nyamira County has been taken into police custody after being accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl at a church in Ikonge.
According to a local administrator, the incident took place on the evening of April 20, after a concerned member of the public raised alarm upon reportedly seeing the 42-year-old pastor lock himself inside the church with a minor.
When officers arrived at the church in Nyamira North Sub-county, they found the building locked from the inside and the lights turned off.
Multiple attempts to reach the pastor, including phone calls that went unanswered as his phone was switched off, proved futile. The officers then contacted his wife for assistance.
“Upon arriving and spotting a set of keys inside the church through a window, the pastor’s wife was visibly shaken. A member of the public used a staff to retrieve the keys by pulling a nearby table. The Pastor then emerged and pleaded for forgiveness before unlocking the doors,” stated part of the report.
Once inside, officers found a pair of shoes believed to belong to a young girl. A search of a makeshift kitchen in one corner of the church led to the shocking discovery of a teenage girl hidden inside a 310-litre drum.
The girl, a Grade 8 pupil, was reportedly under the care of the church.
According to witnesses, the girl appeared distressed and her clothing suggested possible abuse.
The matter was immediately reported to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ikonge Police Patrol Base.
Police responded swiftly and escorted both the pastor and the girl to the station for further questioning and investigation.
The case was officially recorded under OB number 04/20/04/2025 at Ikonge Police Patrol Base.
A formal investigation is now underway, and the suspect is expected to face charges upon completion of the inquiry.
