The National Assembly’s Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee will on Wednesday, September 3, and Thursday, September 4, 2025, conduct approval hearings for nine nominees proposed by President William Ruto to serve as high commissioners, ambassadors and consuls-general.

Committee chair Nelson Koech will preside over the vetting sessions at the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, Parliament Buildings, Nairobi.

Among those nominated are former Cabinet Secretary Florence Chepngetich Bore (High Commissioner to Windhoek, Namibia), Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri (Ambassador to Ankara, Turkey), Lucy Kiruthu (Ambassador to Bangkok, Thailand), Henry Wambuma (Ambassador to Bujumbura, Burundi), and Abdirashid Salat Abdille (Ambassador to Jakarta, Indonesia).

Others are Joseph Musyoka Masila (Ambassador to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Edwin Afande (Ambassador to Vienna, Austria), Jayne Jepkorir Toroitich (Consul-General to Dubai, UAE), and Judy Kiaria Nkumiri (Consul-General to Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo).

The nominations were formally submitted to the National Assembly on August 19 by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, in line with Article 132(2)(e) of the Constitution and the Foreign Service Act, which mandate parliamentary approval before the President can appoint envoys.

Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge has invited members of the public to submit memoranda contesting the suitability of any of the nominees. Such submissions must be made under oath, supported with evidence, and delivered to the Clerk’s office, P.O. Box 41842-00100, Nairobi, or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke
