Over 5 Million Kenyans Benefit as CS Duale Highlights Universal Health Gains at IBEC Meeting

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale gave a substantial report on Kenya’s health progress during the 28th session of Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

IBEC is a significant government platform in which the country and county leaders gather to discuss key issues regarding finance, budget, economy, and planning. Under this session, the progress in various sectors, including the health sector, was being considered.

In the meeting, CS Aden Duale highlighted the tremendous strides taken by the Ministry of Health in putting in place Taifa Care, Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program.

The Ministry highlighted that so far, 3.6 million Kenyans have benefited from free primary health care. However, 2.1 million people have accessed specialist interventions like dialysis and cancer treatment under the program.

CS Duale added mentioning the enrollment of over 100,000 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in the national registry.

This will allow these front-line health workers to receive their stipends on schedule as well as be linked to digital health platforms like the electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS).

Besides, 248 Primary Health Care Networks have been launched nationwide, capturing over 78% of the national indicator.

The Ministry has also disbursed KES 3.2 billion allowances to CHPs, boosting health delivery at community level.

This achievement indicates our commitment to ensuring all Kenyans have access to quality healthcare, near their homes and free of charge,” CS Duale added. “We are still committed to developing a health system that benefits all citizens.”

The IBEC meeting offered an opportunity for national and county governments to come together and share efforts toward enhancing Kenya’s health services and development at large.
