In a major blow to the al-Shabaab militant group, a coordinated operation by Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the Somali National Army (SNA), and international partners has resulted in the elimination of more than 40 al-Shabaab operatives in the Ceellareeri area of the Hiiraan region.

The precision strike, which targeted a hideout used by the extremist group, also led to the destruction of vehicles belonging to the militants.

Among those confirmed dead are several high-ranking figures, including Abuu Anus, the group’s logistics chief for combat units, and Mohamed Ahmed (Xerow), a senior field commander.

Notably, Nuur Cabdi Rooble, also known as Nuunuale—al-Shabaab’s operations chief for the Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, Mudug, and Galgaduud regions—was critically wounded in the assault.

Another senior figure, Commander Jeylani, who oversaw multiple militant fronts, also sustained serious injuries.

Authorities believe the targeted individuals played key roles in recent suicide attacks carried out in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.

The government described the operation as a significant step in dismantling the group’s command structure and disrupting its ability to plan and execute attacks against the Somali people.

In a statement, the Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating al-Shabaab and protecting the country’s sovereignty and Islamic values.

The operation is part of an intensified effort by Somali forces and their international allies to restore peace and security across the country.
