Ol’Kalou Junior School is one of 172 schools throughout Nyandarua County that will receive smartboards and other digital tools as part of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP) Digital Literacy Programme. This will be a part of the first phase of the project.

Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy John Tanui, made the announcement saying that the government’s use of technology in education would increase with this step.

Ahead of the rollout, Tanui was accompanied by
the Principal Secretary for Basic Education John Ololtuaa, paid Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa a visit, to discuss the preparations.

According to Tanui, the engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between national government agencies to ensure the successful deployment of smartboards and other digital learning infrastructure across the county.

He said the initiative forms part of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project, which seeks to enhance digital literacy by providing schools with modern learning technologies that improve classroom instruction and prepare learners for a technology-driven future.

Ahead of the rollout, Tanui, accompanied by
Principal Secretary stated that through the integration of digital tools government will continue to develop the education sector by providing teaching materials, helping students achieve better learning results and developing human capital of both students and teachers to be ready for the digital economy.

Deployment of 172 smartboards in Nyandarua County schools will definitely enhance the level of students’ learning via digital means while at the same time the government shall be able to achieve its goal of universalisation of quality and technology, enabled education nationwide.
