The race to the November 27th by-election is intensifying as political parties issue nomination certificates to their candidates ahead of the mini-polls.

On Friday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) became the latest party to present nomination certificates to its aspirants during an event at the party headquarters in Nairobi. The exercise was presided over by the party’s National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, alongside other top officials.

Among those cleared to contest on the ODM ticket are Harrison Kombe, who is seeking to recapture the Magarini Constituency seat, Daniel Naikuni for Purko Ward in Kajiado, Mohammed Yusuf for Nanam Ward in Turkana, Faisal Gedi for Fafi Ward in Garissa, and Thomas Oyolo for Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed described the upcoming mini-polls as a litmus test of the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set September 24th to 27th as the dates for pending party nominations.

Meanwhile, other political parties are also rolling out similar exercises as they gear up for the November showdown.
