The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for his recent remarks discrediting the ongoing selection process of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair and commissioners.
In a statement delivered by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party emphasized that the selection panel operates with full autonomy as granted by law, allowing it to determine its own procedures without external interference.
Sifuna underscored that any attempts to preemptively undermine the panel’s work are unwarranted and unhelpful.”Kenyans have waited a long time to have an electoral commission in place and will not countenance any attempts to derail or delay the process,” Sifuna stated.
This response follows allegations from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, suggesting a plot to rig future elections through the recruitment of individuals purportedly linked to the state or ODM.
Musyoka has accused the government of attempting to monopolize the selection of IEBC commissioners, claiming that such actions are intended to sideline the opposition in the electoral process. The ODM’s rebuttal highlights the ongoing tensions and differing perspectives within Kenya’s political landscape regarding the reconstitution of the electoral body.
