Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga has reportedly been discharged from Nairobi Hospital.

The reported development comes days after ODM officials said the veteran politician was recovering well while receiving medical care at the Nairobi facility.

On October 13, ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo said Oburu was expected to leave hospital within a day or two, dismissing reports that his condition was critical.

Omanyo urged Kenyans to disregard unverified claims about the party leader’s health, saying he was recovering.

Oburu’s health has attracted public attention in recent weeks following his return to Kenya from the United Kingdom, where he had travelled for medical checks and rest.

The Siaya senator subsequently received medical attention at Nairobi Hospital, prompting questions about his ability to resume his political duties.

ODM officials had earlier indicated that he would take time away from active political engagements as he recovered.

Oburu assumed leadership of ODM following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in October 2025. He was later confirmed as the party’s leader.

His reported discharge comes as ODM continues to navigate its political direction and prepare for the 2027 General Election.

The party has remained a major player in discussions over possible political alliances and the future of the opposition.

The latest update has yet to be independently confirmed by Nairobi Hospital, Oburu’s family or ODM officials.
