Kenyan rapper Octopizzo is mourning after the tragic passing of his long-time manager and best friend, Mr. Ongaya Vick, who was familiarly called Cheekszone.

On social media, Octopizzo announced the news to followers, saying Vick was more than a manager but the creative engine of the Octopizzo brand and brother in fact.

“He was the one who had faith in me when many never even had the guts to believe that this rap thing could be our thing. He has been the creative and imaginative force of the Octopizzo brand since 2009, a visionary, a mentor, and the backbone of my career,” Octopizzo wrote in a heart-rending tribute.

The rapper credited Vick for shaping both his career and character, calling his passing a personal loss that feels like losing a part of himself.

“His faith in me shaped not only my career but also the person I’ve become. Losing him feels like losing a part of myself,” he added. “I mourn not just a manager but a true confidant and big brother.”

Friends and family members are gathering in Ongaya’s home in Woodley to prepare for his funeral prior to his burial in his home in Kakamega.

Fans and artists have flooded social media with sympathy messages, praising Vick for his wonderful contribution to the music industry in Kenya.
