The renowned Gengetone music group, Ochungulo Family, is set to make a comeback after a long break. The group had been silent for months, and fans had been waiting for news. The wait is finally over.

On January 17, 2025, Ochungulo Family announced the release of new music. The news was shared on their Instagram account. A snippet of their new music video was posted. The group used the word “Friday” and added a fire emoji to build excitement.

The announcement brought relief to many fans. For a long time, fans had been asking when the group would release new songs. The break had been long enough for rumors to spread. Some fans even speculated that the group had split up. However, in 2022, the group responded to these rumors. They confirmed that they had not broken up. Instead, they had taken a break to allow members to work on solo careers.

“We agreed to go on a break, and now we are back,” Benzema said in an interview. “We’ve been working on a new album. It will be out by June. I think you will love it.”

Ochungulo Family is famous for their hits like “Bandana ya Esir,” “Aluta,” “Pandemic,” “Dudu,” and “Na Iwake.” Their music has always been popular among fans, and their return is highly anticipated.

Gengetone, the genre Ochungulo Family is known for, became a sensation in Kenya between 2019 and 2022. The music style quickly gained popularity and became a distinct genre in the country. However, over time, Gengetone began to lose its dominance. It was slowly overtaken by Arbantone, another music style that emerged.

Despite the changes in the music scene, other Gengetone groups continue to thrive. Artists like Ethic, Sailors Gang, Rico Gang, and Mbuzi Gang have kept the genre alive.

Ochungulo Family’s return marks a new chapter in the Gengetone scene. Fans are excited for the new album, and the group is ready to make their mark again.
