NTSA Warns of System Hitch Affecting Driving Licence Renewals

Motorists trying to renew their driving licences online are facing difficulties after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reported a problem with its system.

The issue was confirmed by the authority on Friday, September 11, after a motorist complained that the NTSA platform was only displaying a blank page when they tried to renew a licence.

NTSA said the problem was on its side and had not yet been fixed.

“Hello, thank you for contacting NTSA. There is a system error on our end that is yet to be resolved,” the authority said.

The agency added that its technical team had been informed and was working to restore the service.

“We are striving to ensure that the system is back to normal as soon as possible. In the interim period, we implore you to have patience as we try to fix this,” NTSA said.

The glitch has adversely affected drivers whose driving licences need to be renewed, but they have not been able to renew them using the online portal.

There is no information yet regarding the time when the system will be back up.

This is happening amid NTSA’s increased inspections of motorists and vehicles across the country.

According to an announcement made on Thursday, September 10, NTSA has teamed up with the National Police Service to conduct a road safety compliance campaign in Turkana County.

The compliance campaign is focusing on motorists who have either expired documents, defective speed governors among others, which are contravening traffic laws.

Licences and insurance of motor vehicles are being inspected as well during the inspection process.

Addressing the campaign at its inception, NTSA officer Benard Boni said the inspections would help curb road accidents and fatalities caused by mechanical faults and non-adherence to traffic laws.

He said the officers conducting the inspections would focus on motorists who are posing a danger to other to other road users, including those operating with mechanical defects or expired documents.
