National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in collaboration with the National Police Service Traffic Department (NPST) have initiated a joint inspection exercise in Nakuru targeting compliance within the transport sector.
The operation, which narrows down to Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), aims at stopping the practice of overloading, as well as checking whether the crew is licensed, examining travel documents, and doing an assessment of vehicles for roadworthiness.
Officers have stated that the activity is a joint effort between the County Government of Nakuru and the exercise, which has gone to the area of work, covering all the bus termini, parking bays for trucks and Nairobi–Nakuru–Eldoret–Kisumu Highway.
Besides enforcement, the campaign has also been designed to educate the transport crews, passengers, students, and the public through a road safety awareness program.
The move is being welcomed by authorities as part of the measures taken to ensure safety on Kenya’s busy highways and to reduce the number of accidents that are caused by non-compliance.
